Soup Restaurant @ Holland Village

I have actually passed by Soup Restaurant @ Holland Village several times but it always had a line outside. It seemed that it was my lucky night when a friend suggested we have dinner there since we were planning to get some drinks in the area and there was NO line however while we waited to be seated next to the "please wait to be seated" sign a couple just went on ahead of us and immediately got seated which coincidentally was the last available table at the moment.
Finally, we were seated and ordered our food. First was the famous Samsui Ginger Chicken served with crisp lettuce for you to wrap the chicken in - the chicken was really succulent and went perfectly with the refreshing greens, best part was that I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious this ginger sauce perfectly savory and did not have the sharp bite that I usually associate Chinese ginger sauces.
We ended up shamelessly putting the sauce on literally everything and was waiting for the waitress to start charging us for extra dishes of the sauce.

Samsui Ginger Chicken (S$19.90)   4/5

Of course Since this is the Soup Restaurant definitely had to order some soup, so glad that the soup came in smaller sizes so we could get different ones.
Both the Lotus Root with Spare Rib Soup and Waisan Ginseng Chicken Soup was satisfying and comforting, no MSG for those concerned about that.

(top) "Soup of the Day" Traditional Lotus Root Spare Ribs Soup small (S$6.90)   3.5/5
(bottom) Waisan Ginseng Chicken Soup small  (S$ 7.90)   3.5/5

Next was the "Special" Minced Pork Pagoda with salted egg, the menu touted that this was better and more tender than the original minced pork patty due to its' pyramid shape but I did not actually find this dish special at all. Portion was quite small, a bit too tightly packed, overcooked and on the dry side despite the fat you see in the picture.

"Special" Minced Pork Pagoda w. Salted Egg (S$12.90)  3/5

Isn't a complete Chinese meal without some vegetables, so Ah Kong Fan Shu Leaves (spicy stir-fried sweet potato leaves) it was. Ah Kong might like more spicy than Ah Ma but I could do with more heat. Again, the portion was a bit small.

Ah Kong Fan Shu Leaves (S$10.90)   3/5

Glad I finally tried this restaurant, decent home-style Chinese food. Will be back for the Samsui Ginger Chicken and to try the other soups.

Side note: Chrysanthemum Tea (S$2.80) is refillable but be warned that it is quite sweet

Food: 3.5/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambiance: Casual
Price: $$

Overall: 3.5/5

This review is only for the Holland Village Outlet
(A couple weeks later, I dined at Suntec City Outlet which I found to not be quite as good although the Samsui Ginger Chicken was consistent)
